Water supply system
Background
In this power plant in China, the water supply is provided by an 11.9 km DN600 pipeline with a 174.58 m elevation increase. Three water supply pumps with 450 m3 /hr rated flow rate and 206 m rated head are used to pump the water along the pipeline. The graphs below show the PIPENET model (top diagram), and the elevation profile and min and max pressures in normal operation (bottom diagram).
PIPENET Transient module was used to evaluate what would happen if the pumps tripped. The allowed maximum pressure surge is 30 barg, and in the minimum pressure case cavitation must be avoided. Vacuum breakers can be used if necessary to keep the pressure within target values.
