Steam Hammer in a Main Nuclear Steam System with Globe Valve

Background

In this nuclear power plant, steam is pumped at an average pressure of 5.45 MPa and an average temperature of 287oC. There are two steam generators, each with a capacity of 3312 tons/hr. The pipes used are outer diameter defined, 559 x 30.5 mm, 813 x 45 mm, 965 x 53 mm and 1067 x 54 mm. The main steam valve can close in 0.07 seconds and has a DN750 globe valve with a k factor of 3.8 based on the CRANE standard. Although the steam generators consist of a complex network of pipes, they can be modelled as two DN1000, 3.048 km long pipes.
